Weber 758001 22.5Inch OneTouch Gold Charcoal Grill Blue

Brand Weber
Model 758001
Listprice $179.70
Price $131.00
Weber's One-Touch Gold kettle grill is a great buy for anyone looking for a classic model with a few convenient extras. The design is sleek. The results are delicious. As with all Weber grills, this kettle's lid and bowl are constructed of premium porcelain-enameled steel--which means not only does heat radiate evenly, but the grill will survive if it's left out in the rain. The cooking surface (22-1/2 inches in diameter) is big enough to accommodate six large steaks, twice as many burgers, or up to a dozen kebabs, and the grill's classic kettle shape keeps flare-ups to a minimum.

When designing this grill, Weber clearly kept convenience in mind. The grill's nickel-plated grate has two built-in hinged side openings that make adding more charcoal briquettes easy and safe, and, when the lid's not in use, it can hang from the bowl by a handy hook. The grill is durable, too. The porcelain-coated steel bowl and lid are exceptionally strong and designed never to rust, fade, or peel. The grill's aluminum vents and ash catcher won't rust either, and its tripod base, nylon handles, and all-weather wheels--besides being exceptionally sturdy--make the grill remarkably easy to maneuver. Weber's patented One-Touch cleaning system--a clever setup of lever-activated blades--sifts ash out of the kettle and into a cooking-pot-shaped ash catcher. You never have to get your hands dirty--and emptying the kettle takes only a few seconds.

To top it all off, Weber throws in a 31-page owner's guide filled with cooking tips and time-tested recipes for grilling everything from pork chops to bratwurst to Cornish hens. ....read more

I switched to using this (in the blue) from a 10 year old gas grill about 6 months ago. I am absolutely in love with it, and BBQ every chance I get. The product itself is very high quality, with a nice powder coated or enameled finish (not sure which), that appears as though it will last a long time. With a chimney starter and some of the weber bbq starters, getting it fired up is no problem at all (just takes about 20 minutes of drinking beer and watching it).

The method I use is to take the cooking grate off, and place the starter cube on the lower grate, then I put the chimney starter on top and pour my coals in. Wait until the coals are coated in a white ash, and pour them to one side of the lower grate. That way, I can control the temps I’m cooking with by moving my food closer or further from coals. This also makes it simple to sear the meet directly over the coals, then move it a little further away for the rest of the cooking time.

    Pros

    Works great

    Good quality material and construction

Cleaning the ashes is simple and easy

Price was pretty good (much better quality than the other charcoal grills I looked at in this price range)

    Cons

no built in thermometer (the platinums have one)

No built in tables or work surfaces of any kind

Overall, I am very happy with this grill. If I was going to buy another, I would probably upgrade to the platinum model (which is admittedly $100 more), to get the thermometer, work tables and an easier to use lid holder.

Weber 22.5″ One-Touch Gold Kettle Grill – Awesome!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’m not even sure where to start! I’ve wanted to add a charcoal grill to my outdoor cooking fleet for many years just for those few times that I’d like to cook more naturally. I’ve used this one 2 times so far and can’t believe I’ve waited this long. I think it’s saved me over $1000 I was going to spend to replace my 10 yr old gas grill.

This grill and a couple Weber accessories make charcoal grilling a breeze! I haven’t grilled with charcoal in years and obviously I had cheap junk for grills in the past.

The quality of the grill is great, but I expected that. I can see it lasting years and years as many others have attested to. I’ll easily use it even during the week when I don’t have the time I thought it would take and thought gas was easier for. The first use and trying to get used to charcoal again was almost a failure because I almost choked the heat down keeping the vents closed. When I realized that the steaks slowed down cooking and the kettle top got wet from condensation it hit me that I had the vents closed thus the fire couldn’t breath. All I had to do was open the vents and ‘viola, in no time the heat was back up and going strong with no other help from me, just air.

Yesterday I outdid myself with ribs. Although I did cook them a little to high, they were the best I’ve ever done both falling off the bone and the best flavor I’ve ever gotten. I was using Mesquite chips as well but I’ve done that on a gas grill and cooked twice as long and didn’t get near the same results. It’s amazing how the kettle makes all the difference in the world keeping the charcoal hot and lasting a long time. I’m amazed!

Clean up is much easier than I expected. The ash catcher is awesome, even in high gusty winds. Access though the grill for adding fuel makes adding briquettes and wood a breeze.

Assembly was easy and took less than 20 minutes taking my time.

The only con I can come up with was that on the top handle, it came out of the undamaged box with a chip of the porcelain coming off as if it had been hit. It’s small and by the handle and not exposing the metal so it’s not a functional problem but with the box arriving in perfect condition, it’s obvious it happened before being packed. However, I’d be surprised if anyone could find it.

All I can say is that I’m sold!! Everything Weber that I’ve bought, from the grill to the accessories, have been top notch. Charcoal grilling is now a breeze and so much better than gas. The old saying is absolutely true; having the right tools make all the difference in the world. The Weber Kettle is absolutely the right tool!! Being made in the USA is the cherry on top!

To address some of the complaints in the lesser ratings:

The handles don’t get hot. As hot as mine has been, the handles are easy to hold with bare hands, although I tend to use a mitt around a grill. The new handles should last in any weather condition and much longer than wood as well.

It would be nice to have a temp gauge but that’s not hard to add if you really need one. I can see the benefit but it’s limited.

The Kettle is not unstable if it’s put together right. If it falls apart after assembling, the legs aren’t being secured fully as they should be, which is to tap them all the way in. Rolling it isn’t a problem but like with most anything, you have to be careful. Depending on which way you roll it, one might be able to knock it over if not careful, but I’ve not found that to be easy to do. Standing, it’s as stable as can be. Again, if it’s wobbly or falls apart as one has claimed, the legs were not assembled properly.

The lid DOES have a hook to hang on the side of the kettle; it’s on the underside of the top near the vent. It hangs nicely on the side of the kettle.

Our gas grill finally rusted out after 15 years. I was ready to spend $700 on the 320 but started asking myself why? Grilling outside is for leisure, take your time, relax and enjoy the flavor. So I opted for this Weber One Touch Gold – what I have been missing all these years!

This grill is so easy to use. I didn’t get the chimney starter, I just place some newspapers under the charcoal and it works just fine. I am usually grilling in about 15 – 20 minutes. The ash collector is fantastic, the ashes don’t blow around and it makes it easy to remove the leftover ashes. I got blue, it really looks great. The little hook inside the lid makes it easy to set it aside so you have both hands.

This is going to be a great summer – now if we could just get some sun here in the NW!

I’m very happy with my new grill from Weber. Fit and finish are excellent and you can’t beat the ash collector at the bottom. In a perfect world, the blue would be a little darker as it looks closer to purple. All in all, the guy’s night out was a complete success as the steaks were perfect.

I thought my previous Weber Charcoal Grill was the best grill made. I lived by the temperature gauge and could make quick adjustments because the wooden handles never got hot. These 2 important features were left off this model and for the life of me, I can’t understand why. My personal color preference was red but the blue will cook the same, just not as stylish.

Okay, I’m an addict and this is actually my fourth Weber grill…I buy one every four to five years, use it often, treat it poorly, and when it starts to show signs of age, I simply spring for a new one. Until I discovered the Weber, I seldom even got a year out of my grills – so this is quite an improvement for me. The quality of the product, and the results I get, are topnotch, and today, I wouldn’t consider any other brand (except maybe a built-in Hastings – but that’s another animal altogether).

I go back and forth between the 22.5 inch and the 26 inch version. The 26 is more expensive, but it offers quite a bit more cooking area. It also uses quite a bit more charcoal, and to my eyes, it doesn’t heat quite as evenly. Instead, I’ve settled on the 22.5, and on those relatively rare occasions when I need more grilling area, I just run a second grill.

One thing I especially like is that Weber is so popular, you can get replacement parts just about anywhere. It’s nice to know that if I open the grill in the Springtime and the grates are all rusty, I can zip over to the local hardware store and probably find an exact replacement.

This time I went for the blue version, but otherwise it’s the same Weber I’ve come to love. Easy to clean, rugged – and it cooks as well as anything out there. I’m not a fan of gas grills…they simply don’t seem to get hot enough for certain uses. But with the Weber and some quality charcoal and you’re all set, no matter what’s on the menu.

Only very small complaint is that I’ve had some problems with the paint peeling off under the top cover. In the past, once I noticed this happening, I simply scrubbed all the loose paint off with a wire brush…curious to see if this one has the same problem.

    Really recommended!

We have this Weber, but an older model. Ours actually came with a thermometer in the lid handle to gauge your cooking temp. It has been blown around by the wind in recent years and we talk about replacing it but Weber doesn’t show that model. We will keep ours no matter how rough it looks until Weber produces the same type of grill.

The rotisserie attachment is ASSUME. We saw this on one of Steve Raichlen’s programs. Rack o’ribs, prime rib roast, poultry. Yummmmm! You will wonder how you could produce these treats without it, indirect is good, but this is REALLY good.

After owning this for a lot of years with outdoor storage in Iowa we did have to replace the fingers of the ash sweep system. Picked those up a local hardware store and we are great with this grill.

My pops is a master griller and a huge fan of Weber (he’s had one grill for at least 25 yrs). So, we decided to upgrade him to the 22.5 with the new ash cather and he absolutely loves it, not one complaint, he lovers love the color, but fears that in 25yrs it’s going to look terrible.

This is a great charcoal grill. My fiance had an older 22.5 silver that was given to her, it did a good job, but the open ash catcher made a mess and was a pain to empty. I love the blue color, worth the extra money to have something a little different from basic black. Shipping was awesome! Ordered on Thursday, grilling on Saturday with free super saver!

    Let me Explain
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We ordered this for the FIRST time on February 5th. My husband was so excited and rushed out to buy charcoal, cleaning brushes, etc. When we got it and he opened the box we discovered one of the handles was bent, and there was a large section that had no protective paint over it, making us fear it would rust prematurely. Needless to say we were disappointed. He boxed it up and I called Amazon, and they were great! They immediately sent us a return packaging slip, and placed a new order (at upgraded two day shipping no less) for us. So, once we got all that straightened out and got the second one (which looked great by the way) we unpacked it and looked forward to making the chicken we had prepared.

My husband put it together and brought it over to me and I must say, the blue looks a heck of a lot cooler than the basic black! This is the upgraded model with the reservoir for ashes, and while I don’t do a lot of grilling, my husband really appreciated this aspect of the grill.

It was easy to put together, and Weber has a wonderful reputation when it comes to grill products. The chicken we cooked on it came out wonderfully, though we have had a gas grill for the past few years, so the extra time a charcoal grill takes will take some time to get used to.

All in all well worth the money.

    Mo’ Betta Cooker
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
What a great cooker! I got mine just before Thanksgiving and used it to cook my 14 lb. Turkey. I was a little concerned about whether I could control the heat/smoke ratio well enough so that the Turkey wasn’t dry on the outside, barely cooked on the inside. No problem at all! I took an old 9″ x 13″ x 2″ baking pan that had outlived its usefulness as a baking pan (started rusting) and placed it in the center of the charcoal rack. I put hot coals on the rack on either side of the pan and filled it about 1/2 full of water. With hot coals on each side of the pan, it gave off steam to help keep the bird moist. The water-filled pan created a relatively cool spot above which I could set the Turkey to coo. So, I had smoke, indirect heat and a little steam going on and the bird came out absolutely GORGEOUS. The skin was crispy and mahogany-colored. I am a foodie and have cooked some really tasty Turkeys before, but as my Cajun buddy used to say, “Dis ain’t jes mo’ betta, dis is a whole LOTTA mo betta!”

I have also used it for direct heat grilling of steaks, lamb, venison and hamburgers and it worked perfectly for all of them. I have fallen in love with this cooker.

Cleanup is SUPER easy and is possibly my favorite part about the Weber Kettle Grill. I have the Gold model and it has an aluminum catch pan and a lever you slide from side-to-side that rakes spent ashes into slots in the bottom of the kettle, which open into this pan. So, with the pan in place, you slide the lever a few times and “poof” all the spent ashes are in this pan, which has a handle, and you can dump the ashes into a trash bag without ever having to get your hands dirty. It also assures that no burning embers might escape the bottom of the grill while cooking. Be sure to let the pan sit for a few hours before dumping the ashes because a few live embers may fall into the pan as they drop through the bottom of the charcoal rack. I empty the ashes BEFORE I start to grill, not after, that way I know for sure there are no live coals that might be dumped into the trash bag.

The air louvers on the bottom of the grill are operated by a lever and work smoothly. The spinning disk on top that opens 4 holes in the lid works smoothly, too, and is tight-fitting enough that it is very effective at starving the coals for oxygen when you are through grilling. I use Royal Oak natural charcoal and it leaves extremely little ash, so I am able to cook several meals on it before I even have to rake the ashes down into the catch pan. The air controls are tight enough that after cooking, I shut the grill down and am able to re-use the leftover charcoal because it was smothered. I use a chimney starter with an electric charcoal lighter to fire up my charcoal so there are never any chemicals added and the flavor is pure wood smoke.

I strongly recommend this product and use it two or three times/week. It still looks like new on the outside, sparkly and blue. It’s also starting to get that seasoned coating of smoke/grease/yumminess built up on the inside of the kettle and that will only make food taste beter as the patina ages. Buy one, you won’t be sorry.

I RECENTLY WORE OUT AN 18″ WEBER, HENCE THE PURCHASE OF THIS 22 1/2″. ONCE TOGETHER,AND AFTER COALS WERE HOT, I TRIED TO ROLL B-B-Q OVER TO ANOTHER SPOT AND (2) LEGS FELL OFF. IMAGINE MY SHOCK, STANDING THERE HOLDING THE UNIT WITH ONE LEG, HOT, WHILE HUBBY TRIED TO REATTACH THESE LEGS. THIS TIME, BEFORE USE, WE SCREWED THE LEGS ON. TWO SIMPLE SCREWS DO THE TRICK. I bought this weber kettle grill to expand my cooking area since I already own the Weber Performer, I coudn’t be happier with this grill and my performer, I added the work table, the lid holder and is almost as I had 2 performers, these grills are so well constructed that they will last forever if you take good care of them.

As a fanatic griller I grill my dinner almost everynight and I found myself spending a little to much in charcoal, you know, just to grill one steak and some veggies on a charcoal grill is a little waistful so I bought the Weber Q 220, also a great addition to my grilling experience.

Go for it, you will be not disappointed!

My husband will cook on no grill other than a Weber kettle, and we looked at this one versus the Performer. Just brought home the new 22.5″ one touch gold, since we decided we didn’t need the gas starter, the attached table or charcoal bin. The two features I didn’t realize we were losing from the 10-year old kettle we’re replacing are the the cradle-bracket that holds the top when you take off the cover, and the thermometer which was part of the cover. I’m a little upset that we spent what we did, to have those features NOT INCLUDED. Will be returning it for the Performer, I guess, but we’re not happy campers. I hate to support a company that makes you pay an ultra-premium price in a newer model just to have the features that you’ve always had.

This is a well-made and very functional grill with all sorts of interesting available accessories that really work well. There is a reason for the popularity of the Weber – everything cooks great whether on the outskirts of the sides of the grate or on the center of the grate. I attribute this to the Weber design and the grill’s ability to distribute heat evenly.

The flavor will amaze you. Terrific with fish too, though on salmon you’ll need a cedar plank to cook with. Corn, burgers, steaks, anything. I cook on it all winter, too. It makes holiday meals more fun than they used to be!

Order this blue grill a week ago and got a defect with 2 big black dent on the side on the cover exposing the inside metal. I was a little disappointed. Try to contact Amazon customer service on the web and was amazed that they have a “please call me” service. I just typed in my phone number and they call me right away. The return for a replacement is painless and they order a new one for me right away. All I need to do is put the damaged grill in the original box, re-tape it, leave it outside my front door. UPS was here the next day, pick up the box and return to Amazon. That was really easy.

I finally receive my new blue grill today. It is perfect and only took me 10 minutes to assemble it. The ash tray needs a little adjustment with a plier and now it is working perfectly. I have ordered a work table and putting it in is a snap. I also got the smokenator and it fit perfectly inside the grill. Try the cover and it fit perfectly and no gap in between with everything in place. I am a happy camper and ready to do some bbq this weekend. The blue color looks really nice in my backyard for an extra $10.

So do not get despair if you get a defect, just keep returning and you will eventually get a perfect one. It worth the wait.

I am glad that I only need to return it one time. On my reasons of return, I mention this grill is defective and should not put back on the shelve and send to other customers. I also contact Weber and let them know about this so they can improve their product quality control in the future before boxing their products and send to the distributor.

Hope this help and good luck.

I understand people’s devotion towards the original grill, but I ordered it and have so far received two with imperfections on the enamel coating –and I do not mean little scratches, but big missing spots where the handles are welded to the base. As always, Amazon’s customer service is unparalleled, but I will only try one more time. If the third one is defective I will ask for a refund. This is totally unacceptable from a company who evidently charges a premium for their reputation.

UPDATE: I called Amazon and, as usual, they were very helpful. These people have arguably the best customer service around.

I then called Weber and they offered an even better solution, which was to send me a replacement for the defective bowl. After the inconvenience, it is good to know you can count on cust. service. Kudos to Weber for this.

UPDATE: Received bowl replacement from Weber. It is defect-free, but the color does not match the lid we had. Needless to say, we are returning everything. I doubt I will buy anything from them again. Even if they have amazing customer service.
