Does pretty well. A bit of a learning curve
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I use this grill only for ribs and chicken (game hen or whole split chicken). It’s pretty neat. Ideal for my condo with a painted deck. It’s a simple condo way to Bar-B-Q.
Grilling steaks on the provided grill plate will be a letdown, I don’t even bother.
I have some other tips and comments.
6 pieces of charcoal gets pretty hot and cooks a long time, however, for ribs and chicken, I would recommend having some additional charcoal going 3/4 of an hour into cooking.
The additional roasting rack is a MUST buy.
Cooking tips: Just like opening an oven door, taking the lid off to peek in drastically reduces the heat, and can affect how the meat cooks.
Lining the charcoal holder in foil makes it easier to remove ash. Poke out the small air holes after you line it.
Here’s a clean up tip: Buy a can of EZ-OFF fume free oven cleaner. You only have to wait a few minutes and everything will wipe out clean in a jiffy.
You can add some wet smoke chips to the coals, wrapped in foil with some holes poked.
If your plate loses its slight cone shape due to heat warpage (over time), just hit the bottom and it will pop out to be the proper cone shape again.
Also, the roasting rack can be secured to the grilling plate for easier lifting when adding charcoal.
Cut 4 short pieces of wooden skewers and force them into the 4 rounded wire “feet” that protrude below the holes that allow it to sit on the grill plate.
The Cobb Grill is solidly built, has a few minor design flaws and takes some time to clean up. Ribs and split chickens cook up pretty damn tasty.
OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!!!

This grill is great for condo living! It truly does burn for hours on a few coals and is easy to clean. I wished the grill rack was standard as this is a must-have feature for smoking.
Great slow cooking grill
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is a great grill for slow cooking chicken, pork, beef & fish. Pour some marinade in the moat, put your meat and vegetables on and check after a half hour and maybe every 15 min after that. Meat comes out nice and tender, and you can taste the flavor you added to the moat.
I added vegetables to the moat wrapped in tinfoil with mixed results. Potatoes can come out undercooked since there is not that much heat down there. It usually works best to stack everything up on top. The cooker uses very little charcoal (6-8 briquettes) so it would be a great choice if the power is out for a few days and you need a way to cook food without power. I also have a gas grill which works better for hot dogs, hamburgers or steak (which cook quickly). I have cooked hamburgers with the cob, but it is a different experience. The cobb works best when slow cooking to bring out the flavor. Think of it as a charcoal crock-pot. If you love flipping burgers and putting out flame-ups, get a gas grill. If you like tender, nicely flavored meat with a minimum of fuss, this grill is for you! It is hard to wreck a meal and is fun to experiment with. It is a leisurely way to grill! The only other limitation is space. It is nice and compact, but expect to cook for 3 or 4 people, there is only so much room in the grill. This is a great grill to take camping as it is compact and requires a minimum of fuel.
It cleans up nice and easy. After cooking, pour some soap and water in the moat while there are still some warm coals. This will make cleaning easier. Then everything wipes down easy since the moat is usually where things may stick. I also liked the bag that comes with the grill, it makes it easy to store or take with you.
I made a simple charcoal starter out of an old coffee can. I drilled holes and weaved wire to make a simple grill for the charcoal. Just place the briquettes and add newspaper underneath and light. 5 to 10 minutes later, the charcoal is ready to move to the cobb. Put the briquettes in the cobb, and away you go.
In short, I love to use this grill when I have the time. If you need food on the table in 15 minutes, this is not the grill to use. If you have an hour or two for a roast or a chicken, this will create a melt-in-your-mouth feast that will wow your family or guests.

was missing the non-stick grilling surface when I got the box. I would rather buy a new part than ship evrything back and forth, from Alaska. no help from the Cobb website and the part isn’t available from amazon. works well with the wok though.

Must have!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Purchased a Cobb BBQ as I am single and wanted something easily portable to take camping with my kids. First night cooked Delicious Chicken (Super Juicy) with vegetables and potatoes on bottom and chicken on grilling rack. Delicious! No real mess easy to clean up, Second night baked a home made pizza at camp and was the bomb mom! I only used 6-8 Match lite type Briquetes. Truly a must have for the galloping gourmet who loves to travel or camp, would be great for an apartment dweller as well, small footprint. I don’t know why they don’t have these at Cabela’s or Scheel’s or any sporting good stores. They are way worth the price. I did read the instructions and followed them to the “T”. The unit breaks down to a small canvas or nylon carrying bag which makes it even more convenient. I would recommend this product to everyone! Would also be great for emergency back up cooking in power outage, or to take on the beach or picnic. Really easy to produce great food, and easy to carry.
I luv me Cobb!!
My next buy is going to be the skillet and the wok accessories … that’s gunna be fun!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This thing is great. It works as described. One chicken, ten briquettes, and two hours is all ya need for one juicy bird (no need to check on it while it cooks). The grill plate accessory and the wire rack are a must buy. Use Pam and never scrub the nonstick with a greenie. I think people over emphasize cleaning the thing all together. Although its made of stainless steal and your gut wants the insides to sparkle … just don’t do it! Treat it like anyone would a grill, let it get seasoned with reasonable cleanings and the Epicurean will come out in ya! I’ve used the Cobb on many many camping trips and I use it at the house around three or four times a week. Its very sturdy and durable. For streaks and potatoes, I cook the potatoes wrapped in aluminum foil on the wire rack covered. When the potatoes are getting soft, I put them in the bottom, add a few more briquettes, install and let the grill accessory get hot (use the lid if you want to get it really hot) and cook the steaks. Mmmm … It will cook anything. I’ve smoked a pork butt on it for eight hours (remove ashes as you add charcoal and use less charcoal in batches, 4 or 5 at a time, to keep the temp low). Great pulled pork BBQ! I still use my big BBQ for big jobs, but the Cobb works great for my all around favorite grill, oven, smoker and it goes anywhere and uses next to nothing in charcoal. I highly recommend it to anyone. In my graveyard of grills this one is a keeper
My husband LOVES his new Cobb!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This grill was purchased to take with us when we leave to spend time at our camper. It is the perfect size for 2 to 4 people, and very easy to store. My husband uses it to smoke and has had wonderful results with ribs and a beef roast so far. This week we’ll be smoking brisket, trout, and baby backs. We spray the insides with non-stick spray for easier clean-up. Just love the size, ease, and economy (uses very little briquettes). My husband will be writing his experiences and tips on smoking meats and fish on the Cobb website soon. One of the best purchases I’ve made online.
Happy Customer
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We have had the Cobb Premier Portable Stainless Steel Grill & Smoker almost two months and we use it weekly or more.
It is perfect for the two of us. Remember, this is Low and Slow cooking. It will probably take over an hour so don’t get in a hurry.
This is NOT intended to replace a full size BBQ, or a large Smoker.
We have done Chicken legs, Stuffed Pork Chops, Chicken breasts stuffed with swiss cheese, asparagus and ham and wrapped with bacon, Butterfly’d Chicken (Spatchcocked), Fattie (stuffed sausage roll), and more.
The Cobb webb site has a forum where you can get ideas. Also, do a search for “Smoking Meat Forum”
You will find recipes, ideas, helpful people.
Till Spring when I can use it outdoors, I put it in the fireplace (with no fire.) Works fine.
I recommend getting a roasting rack. (It’s not included.)
Another useful item is a thermometer with probe.
Read all of the reviews here. I give it 5 Stars.
Right Goods
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This deisgn cooks, smokes and bakes as well as much larger BBQ’s for 1/5 the storgage area in the car, RV or boat, not to mention its most efficient use of VERY little charcoal ($). It’s a great design and is highly recommended for all outdoor chef’s.
I do think that for the money, it should come with the options included(fry pan, rack, etc.) that are now “Separate Options”.
Good and flexible but not great
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
This is a very flexible gadget. You can bake (cookies, biscuits, but not bread), roast, slow cook/smoke, and stir-fry as well as grill.
The Good:
Compact. Outside except for the lid stays cool, Great for grilling and for slow cooking. Putting water, beer etc. in the moat lends flavor and allows for moist cooking.
Nearly ideal for tailgate, ad hoc cooking or light camping.
If you register with cobbamerica you get a free cookbook or 15% off any accessory.
The Bad:
Needs getting used to and patience. Can be really hard to clean; but putting water in the moat helps, as does cooking spray.
Really needs rack (overpriced) for roasting and needs the wok or skillet if you want to fry. Scrambled eggs for instance can’t be done on the grill it comes with (a couple kids 14/15 found out the hard way).
Doesn’t do 2 level cooking and doesn’t have any control over heat except removing the lid and how much charcoal you use.
Heat/charcoal is not linear. Eight briquettes gives a lot lower temperature/heat than 12!
Really works much better with real charcoal not briquettes!
Removing the lid lowers the temperature a lot particularly if you are using the COBB in the cold.
Marginal below 0°F or -32°C, particularly if not sheltered from more than moderate breeze. Lid lets out a lot of heat when lifted!
Really needs a chimney starter to avoid ash in the moat and to add charcoal. A necessity in cold weather.
Need to remove any leftover charcoal immediately when finished cooking. Otherwise cleanup is much much harder!
Recipe book is no longer down loadable. Cobbq.com gives you the book or a discount for registering. Cobbq has all the accessories and parts but is expensive. (If you buy from them plan on spending enough to get free shipping otherwise its $11.)
Solid starter is very expensive compared to a chimney starter and old grocer bags or newspaper.
The Ugly:
As already noted unless you put some water in the moat (add some lemon slices) cleanup can be hard and tends to take a lot of water (grill spray a real necessity), but fluid in the moat lowers the temperature.
Relatively light but bulky. If your idea of camping is to take the car (and the pop up) and drive to a camp site this is for you; but if its packing or skiing in a few miles this would be good for a real laugh.
Basically it’s a slow cooker. You want to leave the lid on for 5 to 10 minutes to let the grill heat and the skillet and wok can take a 20 to 30 minutes to heat. As a wok you can stir fry for 2 people, maybe 3.
Reheating things with sticky sauces (BBQ) is a right mess; even with cooking spray the nonstick is hard to clean. Eggs etc stick just fine to the “nonstick” even with cooking spray!
Takes more charcoal than the recipes call for particularly if you use Kingsford, but still takes very little.
Depending on the solid starter stick, the starter can be hard to start. Really needs a chimney starter particularly if you need to add charcoal.
Tips:
Use real charcoal like Primo Grills , Smokers Cowboy Charcoal – PR608or whole foods brand (US). It isn’t compressed with weird additives and burns more completely, hotter and quicker.
Carbon Off Aerosalcleaner for the moat, gets rid of the greasy sticky soot on the bowl. Follow the instructions exactly can dissolve plastic.
Cobb Grill Just OK
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I was disappointed because I could not get the grill to cook a whole chicken up to 170 degrees. After 2 Hours I gave up and put it in the oven.
I think if you want to use the grill as an oven, it works OK. But, if you have multiple Items (Like more skewers than can fit on at one time) that require you to open and Close the lid, it will not retain the heat to cook thoroughly.
I sent it back!
Cobb Grill-Worth Every Penny
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This grill does what the promotional materials say. It cooks well with a tiny amount of charcoal. The small size means you can clean up the grill in the kitchen sink..no more burned on crud to scrape or burn off the next time you use it. The stainless steel components look new after repeated uses. A good buy.
experimenting with the Cobb
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have been having fun experimenting with the Cobb. It has been great for smoked baby back ribs, steaks, corn on the cob, burgers, hot dogs, etc. I did invest in an instant-read thermometer for use on chicken. I found the online cookbook, but have only used it as a guideline for my own ideas. On camping trips it works pretty well for baking biscuits, brownies, and Pillsbury cinnamon buns. Pizza crust (cook both sides before adding toppings) is great. The toppings don’t brown up but when camping that’s okay. At home I stick the pizza under the broiler in my oven for a few minutes.
It has been great for camping, since it is very portable. Since the base stays cool, it is easy to carefully move the cooker when the weather changes.
Clean up is not bad. I mostly use the dishwasher, with and occasional scrubbing with a Scotch-brite. Spraying the interior with oil before cooking really helps the cleaning process, especially when using it as a smoker.
Since it uses miminal charcoal, I have packed up small ziplock bags with a starter stick and 10 pieces of charcoal in each bag. When traveling, I can fit several of the prepacked bags right inside the cooker in the tote bag.
The accessories are a bit pricey, so I have searched thrift shops and garage sales for substitutes.
SLOW COOKER
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
It’s very attractive, lightweight, top quality construction but not designed for the fast-order griller. You must take your time. Also has conflicting instructions as to whether to keep the lid on or not. We did and the burgers tasted almost boiled. I guess use your own intuition a bit. Cookbook can be downloaded from website for free or ordered from Cobb for $4.95 shipping (Cobb will not send via Media Mail — it’s our money so I guess they’re not concerned about saving it).
Cobb grill is the way to go!

This product offers ease of portability, a snap to clean, excellent out of the way fat drippings for healthy eating. I have already recommended this product to friends that enjoy camping activities–the carrying case with shoulder strap provides ease of portability.

Excellent Grill. We cooked 4 rib eye steaks with 11 pieces of charcoal and could have cooked for another hour. This grill is everything it claims and more. We are very pleased. It cleans up easy and carries easily in the provided bag.

First results very favorable
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
For years we had used a folding, compact charcoal grill called a Pyromid. Unfortunately they went out of business and parts were no longer available so started considering alternatives. We had seen the Cobb grill previously in Camping World and had decided if we finally replaced our Pyromid, it would be with a Cobb. We got it a month ago and have cooked hamburgers, salmon filets and pork chops. The one thing we had to get used to is that the fire is a lot hotter than with the Pyromid and the salmon got a bit over cooked. Otherwise we are impressed with the unit.
As far as cleaning, what we do is remove all hot pieces of charcoal from the unit and let the ashes cool before dumping them out. We then soak both the moat and fire chamber and the grill in a pail of soapy water. By morning, the food comes off easily from the grill using a tuffy and an SOS pad on the moat unit. SOS also cleans the inside of the dome without soaking.
To start the fire, for years I’ve used 1/2 of a Coughlin Fire Stick available at Walmart or a camping store. It works just fine with the Cobb as well. Reusing charcoal from prior cooking also makes it start faster.
It isn’t as compact as Pyromid but has some definite pluses and being less compact is the only minus. I do wish it was available in a 14 or 15 inch diameter as a 12 inch round grill has less cooking area than a 12 inch square grill as on the Pyromid
Cobb Grill great for small apartments
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I gave this to my daughter for Christmas, she lives in a small apartment. She can use this on her deck, and it works perfectly for 2 people. The cooking serface is small, so you can’t cook for many people. And word of WARNING, do not leave it outdoors, uncovered! It will rust the whole grill.
Cobb grill
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The Cobb grill easily lives up to the hype. Short story… This will be an item we always include for car camping. 20 mins and the coals are ready. Cooks for 2+ hours. 2.5 lb roast, 4 potatoes in the moat, veggies in foil. We are roughing it right? Doesn’t pack down small enough for backpacking or kayaking, but who cares??? Cooking for 4 on a windy beach with no problems
Hard to believe, but the Cobb Grill WORKS GREAT!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I first saw the Cobb Grill at an outdoor show. It seemed too good to be true–cooking all that food, that fast, with that little fuel, and cleaning up so easily. But the sales rep was doing it all right in front of our eyes, so it was pretty persuasive.
Still, I felt a little like I was buying something from one of those late-night TV infomercials. But, since there was a generous return policy, we went ahead and bought the Cobb Premier Grill, to give it a try.
Put simply, the Cobb did everything–EVERYTHING–that had been promised, and a bit more. In fact, we found it cooked superbly with even less charcoal fuel than advertised, and cleaned up even easier. In fact, once we bought the Cobb, our big old charcoal grill really didn’t get used any more.
Another high point is its portability. The included carry bag is sturdy and durable…making it very easy for us to carry it along in the car, or even on short hikes. Excellent for camping, picnicking, etc. Haven’t used it on a boat or in an RV yet, but we can see how the Cobb would work every well in those uses, as well. The “stay-cool” bottom really DOES stay COOL!!!
So, we recommend it highly. It seemed a little pricey at first…but once you buy it, you’ll find that all the parts are very high quality. We got the stainless steel version, and it was well worth the cost difference. The Cobb is far superior to those cheap little import grills you may have seen in the past.
Good luck with your own Cobb!
Dynamite Cooker does Great!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve had mine for about a month now, and have done 3 chickens, 2 tri-tip roasts and a DOUBLE rack of Baby-backs… and am gearing up to try baking/smoking a pile of shortribs soon.
So far, I have only used the roasting rack to cook with…wet mesquite chips wrapped in heavy alum. foil in the firebasket smoke the meat nicely, just perfect. Surprised compliments from everyone who’ve tasted the results. Chicken, in 1 1/2 to 2 hours, comes out so tender you’ll wonder if it’s really done (it is). The Babybacks smoked up wonderful and were as tender as you’d want.
I’m a tri-tip guy, and all my friends step back in respect when I approach a grill with a Tri-tip in hand. I’m good at it. This Cobb Grill makes the best I’ve ever had.
Pro’s:
*Convenient for apartments, small patios, any lifestyle or condition when you want the BBQ to come out and go back to stashed away. It is small, compact, all the accoutrements fit comfortably into the carrying case, even the extra accessories you might buy. Speaking of which, search the internet for the cheapest roasting rack…some will sell this wire rack for $39…it’s about an $6 item, but if you can find one for $15, get one. You’ll use it for roasting and allows you to NOT need to turn over the ribs, chicken, etc. during the cooking process. It’s probably the most convenient of all the accessories.
*Easy setup, easy stash. Minimal fuel (10-12 briquettes).
*A moat! You can add water, soda, beer, etc., in the built-in moat and you get results like doing a Beer-can chicken. Most moist and great taste for everything. Results are great.
*Easy to smoke meats. Add your wet chips to the firebowl when you put on the meat. I’ve been using about 2 tablespoons of chips for a nice amount of smoke flavor.
*Both portable and movable. Not only is this little thing really portable, it can be moved anytime during the grilling by just picking it up with your bare hands. Its sides are cool. It’s halfway to ‘Kid-Friendly’ and is a pretty safe grill to have around kids. The dome is hot, but the sides are not. This is especially handy if you want to shuffle ribs or flip some meat halfway thru cooking…I just pick it up and carry it to the kitchen where I can flip things without making a mess…then I take it outside again. Very handy!
*Set it and Ferget it. The nice thing is that you don’t have to bother with the grill while its cooking. Go party. Relax. All you need is a timer to figure out when its all done. Because you are using a moat and liquid (if you do) it’s hard to over-cook anything.
I haven’t tried doing a plain steak yet, or hamburgers, without the lid…that’s next week’s project.
Cons: Expensive. I bought mine on sale for $85 and was lucky to get it at that. The accessories are expensive. The wok, the frying pan are well designed and might be worth the loot, but the roasting rack is just a wire grid who’s legs happen to fit into the ring-holes of the included grill plate. At the mfg. cost of the wire rack, they should be throwing this thing in for free. Once you get your unit home, you can look for workable racks in thrift shops.
You can still find the earlier models, with the black plastic sides, available at a steep discount, around $50. These would be worth getting to save money. The new models are the ones with the stainless mesh sides.
*Cleaning. If you throw some sliced lemons in the moat-water, cleanup will be easier. The thing should to be cleaned after each use, which could be problematic for RV’rs. The quality non-stick grill surfaces are no problem, but the wire racks and the main steel bowl can need lotsa water or some soaking. You can rough clean it with paper towels and finish it at home, if you’re off camping. Dawn Direct Foam works really well.
*Slow cooking, lower heat. Because it uses lower heat for a longer time, figure that it’s going to be 2 hours for a chicken or a tri-tip, 2 1/2 hours for ribs unless you want to refill the firebox and go for 4 hours. That includes the 1/2 hour for the coals to get right.
*Charcoal starter matches make things easier, so when you find them for sale, buy several boxes. The matches found on the Cobb site are overpriced. They run about $2.50 a box in grocery stores, and there are two kinds, the giant ones and the smaller ones. 8 to the box and 20 to the box, respectively. 2 big ones do it, or 4 small ones will light your charcoal just fine. DON’T leave the dome on while the charcoal is flaming/lighting, you’ll start to melt the top handle (my stupid). Leave the dome off to speed the charcoal lighting.
All in all, I think this is an ideal charcoal grill that almost guarantees you’ll wow yourself, your family and friends with the incredible results. It’s slightly different cooking than the normal charcoal BBQ grill, so you’ll learn to make your cooking adjustments…and you’ll love the results. I would (and do) recommend this little baby to anyone who’ll listen. My friends all recommend my using this as often as they can talk me into it.
Works Great, Cleans Easy…We LOVE It
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Quite simply, we’ve had nothing but wonderful experiences with our Cobb. Contrary to others, we’ve found it effective and inexpensive to grill on, and very, very easy to clean. The stay-cool exterior makes it snap for moving it around…very safe.
So we’re in the gang that would rate this with 5 stars, based on personal experience. We can’t imagine why anyone would/could rate it lower, unless they simply didn’t read the instruction manual before using.
Great Grill, but Weird!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have had a Classic Cobb, (black plastic base), for over a year now. It’s weird because it takes some getting used to. It’s not like your everyday charcoal grill. You cannot simply light the charcoal and cook. Because it uses so little fuel you actually need to pre-heat the grill plate with the lid on for about ten minutes before you attempt to cook. And you have to make sure you pile a little more charcoal than the instructions suggest, (more about that later). Once you do that, you can cook hot dogs or burgers very quickly, but you still need to put the lid back on to retain the heat while you cook, and plan on only flipping your meat one time. No lid-less grilling like any common charcoal grill!
If you are going to use the the Cobb for baking, broiling, steaming, or smoking then think slow, and don’t lift the lid to peek. Go for a walk, hike, converse with friends, and or enjoy a beverage. It takes about three hours for a fine beef roast or about two hours for a complete chicken to reach it’s cooked temperature, and that is just how you want it to be. If you add some soaked wood chips you can easily add some nice smoke flavor.
If you use Kingsford brand Charcoal Briquettes, you will need to use more than the instruction manual recommends. Why? Because Kingsford redesigned the shape of their briquettes with “Sure Fire Grooves”. Brilliant! Now they light and burn faster, so they don’t last as long and you need more to achieve the same temperature and cooking time than without the new grooves! Instead of eight to ten briquettes, plan on using ten to twelve, still not much and easily carried for up to three hours of cooking.
If you have the time to cook fabulous tasting slow cooked BBQ, then the Cobb excels at that without any learning or experimenting. If you need a quick grill for hot dogs or burgers, then you need to learn how to get the Cobb as hot as possible and quickly sear and flip your food.
This past summer I picked up the accessory frying pan. It’s great for baking crisp custom made pizzas anywhere you can use your Cobb!
Perfect for my Boat and RV
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I own one on for my boat and one for my RV. These grills are amazing but are different to a Smokey Joe or other little fire box.
After reading the other reviews in here, I had to comment. Cleanup is extreamly easy. I simply wipe it down with paper towels while it is still warm. Then I put it in the dishwasher when I get home and it comes out good as new every time.
With 8 briquettes, I can easily get to 400 degrees inside and cook a full chicken and even 2 racks of ribs without a problem. It cooks for about 2 1/2 hours at full temp.
It is very efficient and does not need a lot of fire to cook properly but this grill is different and you do need to keep the dome on at all times while cooking. You also need to experiment a little. Try roasting Vegetables in the moat!
Cooks OK, but awful to clean
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought this grill to use with my RV. I have cooked twice with it now, once a steak and once a spatchcocked game hen. They both cooked OK, and the cleanup wasn’t bad with the steak (I remove most of the fat before cooking), but the cleanup after cooking the game hen for an hour was awful. The thing is a wh.. Uh, Horror.. to clean after cooking something with some fat for that long. Some of the bird stuck to the grill grid and was nearly impossible to get off even after soaking in hot detergent water for nearly an hour. I was using this at home as a try-out and used a large utility sink to soak and clean, and still had a hard time. It would have been nearly impossible to clean it properly if I’d been out in my RV.
im willing to give it a chance
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
i got this cute little grill last week, followed the directions and cooked hot dogs last night. it was interesting ill say that. i had the special charcoal and firestarter thick matches from the cobb company too. i guess the matches are good but you need to break them in half so they dont go out by rubbing up against the sides of the fire starter chamber. i had the big charcoal cake fall apart as i removed it from the wrapper so next time ill get the bricquettes. i sprayed the moat and the cover with pam like the directions said to and when it heated up it dripped all down and over the outside of the grill so i wont use that again and then when i put the cook top in place the air change sent ash into the pam sprayed moat so if i had vegetables to put in the moat i wouldnt have been able to do that. the hotdogs kept rolling off until i placed them like the spokes of an umbrella then they were fine. it took about thirty minutes to cook them and then i had the grill to clean so followed the instructions and poured soapy water in the moat. but first i pulled the charcoal out but there was ash in the fire chamber and when i went to empty the water out later there was an awful mess. ashes and gloppy water . then brought it all in the house and put it in the sink to wash, used sos on the parts that the book said i could and got it all scrubbed and clean and dried and put in the carry bag. then i thought how much less work a fry pan would have been and cheaper too…….but im willing to give it another try, the premise is a good one and i dont have the room for my webber any more. this can be stored in the apt. under the sink. im going to try chicken next. i have a feeling that will be better. it will probably be harder to clean up because this time im not spraying the pam on it and ill wait till i dump ALL the ash before i put any soapy water in it. but even if its not what i expected its just so darn cute…………….
Cobb Grill
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I was disappointed in this rather expensive grill and returned it. The fact that it was developed in South Africa might mean that maybe it’s designed for people without much in the way of a fuel supply. It uses 8-10 charcoal briquets which is not a lot of fire. I tried to cook a couple of 1-1/2-inch-thick swordfish steaks and some vegetables. The veggies kept sliding off the nonstick grilling plate, which was annoying. I tried it with and without the dome (cover). I finally gave up after an hour (including a half hour to let the briquets get hot per the instructions) and took everything into the house and finished it on the stove. The same meal on my little Weber Smoky Joe, which cost about $25, would have cooked in 10 minutes or less.
